A spur gear with less teeth will make the car faster on a long strait. But can make the car to slow coming off a turn. In which you want to go with a bigger spur gear and a larger pinion. to get the ideal ratio. Most the the gearing on a brush-less motors is based on the motors temperature. But this is not always true because all motors are not alike.
